Most parents are ready by now even if they looked forward to a wonderful summer with their kids off from school. Others may find summer more difficult because they are working and now there are childcare issues.

Homework, new teachers, new friends, new activities…

Some children are more sensitive than others and may feel stressed out returning to a full schedule.

Here are 3 things you can do to set your child’s year off on a positive path.

  1. Check in with your child and ask how they are feeling about school, teachers, friends etc. Listen and validate their feelings.
  1. Ask them if they feel over or under scheduled and if there were something they’d rather do or postpone until another time.
  1. Help your child problem solve and work towards solutions to help your child feel less stressed and more exited about what they are doing.

If your child is really struggling; family or individual counseling might be indicated.
